Blue Glass Sculpture Solar Light Set

April 15, 2015 6 Comments

I’ve been chomping at the bit to make some new glass sculptures, and now that we’re in our new place I can finally do it. It appears that I need more glass! I’ve been avoiding buying it at rummages because I didn’t want to have to move it, so all we took with us was mostly the blue stuff. That’s the best stuff, though, isn’t it?

I made one sculpture at the end of last summer that went in our kitchen and also became the cover for my glass sculpture book. Over the weekend I looked t see what I could make and noticed I had some blue plates I’d found, blue candlesticks I’d picked up at a thrift store, and some glasses.

I decided on making a solar light set. First up, the base, which was a thick drinking glass. It’s small but the sculpture will be minimal layers so it won’t tip.

Then, these blue plates I found. Aren’t they pretty?

I love the design of these. It pays to put funky pieces on sculptures when you’re making them because it can totally change the look of your piece.

I also had these cute glasses with a rim through them that would work well for the middles. I added the glue, and waited.

Even the bottom of these glasses are cute.

I like the lettering.

Next up: another layer of blue plates.

I can’t make these too high, so I’ll have to finish it off now. Lucky for me I have these cool blue candlesticks.

You don’t see these very often. Even so, they were only a buck at a thrift store. So I flipped them over and glued the bottom.

Then I took my solar lights, and removed the bottoms.

And glued them into the candlesticks.

I like how they turned out, how just a few pieces of leftover glass can make something that reflects the light so beautifully. I have them in the yard and like how they bring color and shine. And at night they glow! I’m such a fan of solar lights, and this is a fun way to do them.

Yes, blue is the best, Cherie. Glad you’re getting all settled in. Moving is the pits.

Do you have a favorite glue for glass these days? I know you’ve addressed this before, but manufacturer’s keep coming up with stronger versions.

I still like Goop Hogar, but I’ve using the marine variety now.

The Space Between Dreaming is a moving novel written with warmth and heart and which contains valuable wisdom. I loved that the work tackles difficult topics about childlessness, childhood trauma, and betrayal by friends with sensitivity. It tenderly captures the social and emotional toll of being childless. I loved the main characters and found them to be realistic and engaging. The work masterfully explores the themes of friendships and relationships, drawing important lessons that can be applied in real life. The inclusion of art and the process of painting also enhance the story. Cherie Burbach's unforgettable novel will resonate with readers for its applicable themes and compelling characters. Fans of women's novels will love it.

Cherie Burbach's writing is surprisingly vivid, this being her debut attempt. She can take you inside the character's mind within a span of words, all the things they're struggling with put bare before you. The prose isn't flowery, but gentle enough to nudge you into relating your traumas too, and heal as the characters do.

Loved learning more about art, and the community surrounding the people in the book. Couldn't wait for the next chapter and following the women in this story. I am hoping the author has a second book in mind, to continue the journey of Jane and Grace. I would recommend this to book clubs, so they could meet and discuss what they read and what they think will happen next.

A beautifully written story about the lives of two very interesting women who come together and form a life long bond. I love how this book is written. I found myself placed in the story like I was an innocent bystander watching each moment unfold and learning more about art than I ever thought possible. As the book ended, I found myself wanting more. My hope is that there is a 2nd book in the works so I can continue watching the friendships unfold and the lives of the main characters continue to grow!
