Cherie Burbach spent a decade as a freelance writer, penning articles for places like NYT, NBC, Family Circle, Christianity Today, and more. While she still writes, she now works full time as an artist. Check out her show schedule to see her in person or visit her work at a nearby shop or gallery.
Cherie Burbach has been an artist and writer ever since she was a young child. Creativity was a safe place for her and a way to work through a turbulent childhood. Growing up in an alcoholic household made things unsteady and frightening, but drawing and writing poetry were how she worked through anything that made her sad or scared.
This desire to offer hope and encouragement is the intention behind her art. She is a self-taught artist, painting almost every day. She also writes poetry and other works, and feels words and images are closely tied in telling a story of faith and confidence about the future.
Here’s more on Cherie and her work.
She grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her artistic talents were recognized early on in but it wasn’t until her late 30s that she began to pursue them professionally. She has written dozens of poetry, art, and nonfiction books, taught mixed media art classes, and exhibited in various venues throughout Wisconsin, California, Michigan, and New York. She’s written for places like NBC/Universal, the New York Times, Christianity Today, and more. Her functional art pieces and prints are sold in artsy shops and galleries throughout the Midwest.
Over the years, her painting has evolved from oils to acrylics to now, a collection of paints, inks, pastels, added with things like lace, music sheets, book pages, and other ephemera. She paints with bright colors and whimsical images to show the light of a world beyond this one, where there is only hope and possibility.
